Retinal Artery Occlusions

The retinal artery may be blocked partly (branch occlusion) or completely (central occlusion). Frequently a cholesterol crystal from the heart or carotid artery may cause such a blockage. Cardiovascular evaluation is therefore required. Visually there is no treatment possible but subsequent glaucoma can occur and require treatment.
